OEM Brake Rotors

You initiate the braking process by pressing the sole of your foot against the brake pedal. That action causes a chain of events to then take place. If your Chrysler or FIAT vehicle features a disc brake system, the master brake cylinder sends hydraulic brake fluid to pistons in your brake calipers. The building fluid pressure causes the calipers to clamp brake pads onto the brake rotors, creating the friction that slows the rotation of your wheels. Press hard enough, or long enough, and you come to a full stop.

Types of Mopar Brake Rotors

There are four types of brake rotors. They are:

Blank and Smooth Brake Rotors

Also known as smooth rotors, this type is most common on modern cars like the Chrysler 300 sedan. They can come in either solid or vented forms, and in addition to being easiest on the brake pads, they're long-lasting and resistant to cracking.

Slotted Brake Rotors

This type features spiral grooves that repel dust and contaminants, and are typically found on SUVs such as the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Drilled Brake Rotors

Also known as cross-drilled rotors, this kind is usually reserved for SUVS or pickups like the Ram 1500. They boast a larger surface area, and have holes drilled through them to help disperse both heat and brake pad dust.

Drilled and Slotted Brake Rotors

Combining the best features of both slotted and cross-drilled rotors, this type is generally reserved for performance models like the Dodge Charger.
